Graphic motifs of keys, owls, bicycles and umbrellas are just a sampling of the lyrical Fornasetti designs featured in  Cole & Son’s Fornasetti II collection.

An Italian painter, sculptor, decorator and engraver, Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) created more than 11,000 products during his prolific career.  His work made heavy use of black and white and often featured images of the sun, classic architecture, and opera singer Lina Cavalieri’s face – of which he produced more than an obsessive 500 variations.

Fornasetti’s son, Barnaba Fornasetti, continues his family’s legacy by reproducing his father’s archival designs. They are often re-scaled or re-colored to accommodate new applications. The Fornasetti II collection was specifically designed so that different papers, such as borders and friezes, could be combined with full size panels.

Commenting on the new collection, Barnaba stated, “(Poet) Pablo Neruda once described my father as the magician of precious and precise magic and I think that this decorative collection beautifully captures the magic essence of the Fornasetti world”.

Below are some favorite selections from the collection:
